About The Doctor

Julia Mathew, M.D. is a compassionate and highly proficient cornea specialist and cataract surgeon. She graduated summa cum laude from Union College and went on to earn both her Medical Degree and a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Albany Medical College through a combined degree program. She was inducted into the esteemed Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society in her junior year—an honor reserved for the top-performing medical students in the country. Dr. Mathew completed her Residency in Ophthalmology and Fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai in New York City.

Dr. Mathew joined Highland Ophthalmology in 2016 and practices comprehensive ophthalmology with a special focus on corneal disease, cataract surgery, and dry eye management. She offers a wide array of advanced ocular procedures, including femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses, corneal transplant surgery, pterygium surgery, and specialized dry eye treatments such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser therapy. Dr. Mathew is dedicated to providing personalized, high-quality care tailored to each patient’s unique visual needs.

Dr. Mathew is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and the New York State Ophthalmological Society (NYSOS).She has presented original research at national conferences and has served as Associate Adjunct Professor at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai.
